Over 2.6 Lakh Metric Tons of Rice Imported from India via Hili Land Port

Dinajpur: Over the past five months, a total of 267,857 metric tons of rice have been imported from India through the Hili Land Port in Dinajpur. This significant import was facilitated by 6,434 trucks, marking a substantial trade activity in the region.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yusuf Ali, the assistant director of the Plant Quarantine Office at Dinajpur Hili Land Port Customs Department, confirmed the details. He noted that the rice import activities from India are set to cease after April 16. This cessation is in accordance with the agreement between the two nations, as the rice import period sanctioned by the Ministry of Commerce of India is valid only until this date.



Over the last five months, traders associated with the Hili Land Port Import-Export Factors Association have successfully imported 267,857 metric tons of rice from India. This import activity underscores the importance of the Hili Land Port as a conduit for agricultural trade between the two countries.
