Rangpur: The Genocide Day-2025 was observed in the divisional city today with a renewed pledge to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh where everybody will get justice and human rights equally. The Rangpur district administration organized a memorial and discussion meeting on genocide, the historical great Liberation War, at the Rangpur Shilpokola Academy auditorium on the occasion.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam was present as the chief guest at the discussion, presided over by Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal. The Divisional Commissioner emphasized that Bengalis are a nation of heroes, highlighting the rare sacrifice of people’s lives for the country’s independence in the history of the world.

He remarked that since the partition of the country, West Pakistan had continued indiscriminate and demonic massacres on sleeping, unarmed Bengalis. He added that the invading forces also brutally killed thousands of innocent, unarmed Bengalis in Dhaka and other cities. “Our heroic freedom fighters sacrificed their lives and gifted us with an independent and sovereign country, a free society and a red-green flag,” he said.

Rangpur Range Additional DIG Md. Rezaul Haque Khan, Rangpur Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner of Police Md. Habibur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Abu Md Saim, freedom fighter Abdus Sattar, and others spoke as special guests. The event saw participation from freedom fighters and family members of the martyred freedom fighters, government officials, teachers and students, guardians, and journalists.
