Khulna: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has announced plans for extensive development projects aimed at transforming Khulna into a modern, green, clean, and waterlogging-free city. The decision was made during a meeting held at KCC’s Shaheed Altaf auditorium, chaired by KCC Administrator Md Firoz Sarkar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee responsible for overseeing KCC’s activities was formed under section 25(k-2) of the “Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2024”. The meeting resulted in several strategic decisions, including initiatives to preserve the city’s water bodies through landscaping and identifying focal development points.
Collaborative efforts were also highlighted, with plans to involve Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), and Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) in survey and design planning for the development projects. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is set to be signed with the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) for establishing sluice gates and pump houses in Alutala and Labanchara.
The meeting further approved the renewal of temporary leases for KCC-owned land at Dakbangla intersection and the vertical expansion of a market on the western side of the earthen road. Plans for modernizing 22 city intersections were also sanctioned, ensuring that costs remain within the projected budget.
KCC Administrator Firoz Sarkar, who also serves as the Khulna divisional commissioner, directed all parties to work diligently to implement the adopted decisions, stressing the importance of transparency in all service-oriented activities of the KCC. He emphasized the need for mosquito control ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr and warned of accountability for any negligence in duty.
The meeting was conducted by KCC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Laskar Tajul Islam and was attended by various officials, including KCC Secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, and representatives from several local departments and agencies.
