Dhaka: The Home Ministry today issued a set of 15 directives aimed at maintaining law and order across the country on the eve of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The statement, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Ziaul Haque Mir, was released by the Political Branch-2 of the Public Security Division, Home Affairs Ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these directives are intended to ensure safe and comfortable travel for people heading home for Eid-ul-Fitr. The ministry has emphasized the importance of maintaining overall law and order during this period. Special attention is to be given to preventing theft, robbery, extortion, and terrorist activities, with intelligence agencies working alongside uniformed police. Check posts will be set up at strategic locations, and measures will be taken to prevent and detect the spread of counterfeit money.
Increased patrols by the army, BGB, police, and RAB have been ordered in diplomatic areas, major cities, and ports. The garment industry, represented by BGMEA and BKMEA, is urged to ensure timely payment of salaries, allowances, and bonuses to workers. Women police and plainclothes officers will be deployed to facilitate smooth shopping, with enhanced night security and CCTV coverage in markets.
To prevent travel disruptions, the ministry has mandated strict measures against overcharging on public transport and extortion at transport hubs. Efforts to ease traffic congestion will include rapid toll collection and the installation of IP/CC cameras at key locations, with drone monitoring as needed. Law enforcement agencies are instructed not to stop vehicles unnecessarily during the Eid period.
Restrictions will be placed on the movement of long and heavy vehicles on highways and waterways, with bulkhead movement halted around Eid. Emergency services will be on standby for accidents, and quick removal of disabled vehicles will be facilitated. Control rooms will be established by law enforcement agencies to maintain road order, coordinating with the Ministry of Home Affairs and national emergency services.
