River Police Arrests 348 Crime Suspects in Nationwide Operations

Dhaka: The River Police arrested 348 individuals from across the country for being allegedly involved in crimes such as murder, robbery, and theft over the past seven days.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release from the River Police detailed that the suspects were apprehended in connection with 42 cases. Of these, 24 cases involved illegal fishing, eight were related to recklessness, and there were individual cases of murder, theft, extortion, and two cases of sand extraction.



The River Police conducted various operations across the country, during which they seized 249,779,926 meters of illegal fishing nets, 9,369 kilograms of fish, 252,000 pieces of Bagda Renu fry, 595,925 pieces of different types of fish fry, 100 kilograms of Pangas fry, and 140 kilograms of crabs.



Additionally, the River Police Prosecution registered a total of 126 cases against bulkheads and six cases against dredgers for lacking legal documentation. The authorities destroyed the seized illegal fishing nets, distributed the confiscated fish to orphanages, and released the fish fry back into the water.
