Banned Chhatra League Leader Arrested in Rangpur

Rangpur: The Detective Branch (DB) of Kurigram district police arrested banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Saddam Hossain Nayan from Rangpur metropolis last night. Saddam was the general secretary of the Kurigram district unit of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BCL leader was apprehended from the city’s Jahaz Company Intersection area on Wednesday night. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station, Md Ataur Rahman, confirmed the arrest to BSS. Saddam faces multiple criminal charges, including involvement in the Ashiq murder case, tender rigging, attempted murder, and attacks on the anti-discrimination student movement during the July-August Uprising.



Saddam had been evading capture since August 5. Acting on a secret tip-off, Kurigram District DB police, with the assistance of the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station, successfully apprehended him. Following his arrest, Saddam was transported to Kurigram Sadar police station by the Kurigram District DB police, as confirmed by OC Ataur Rahman.
