Dhaka: The magistracy power of commissioned officers in the Bangladesh Armed Forces, holding the rank of captain and above, has been extended for an additional two months. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification today to this effect.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the notification specifies that this provision will be effective from March 15 and remain valid for the next 60 days. Moreover, military officers serving on deputation in the Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have also been granted the same authority.

With this magistracy power, army officers are authorized to address crimes under specific sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure, including sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95 (2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142, allowing them to take necessary actions.

Previously, on September 17, the government initially conferred magistracy power to commissioned officers of the armed forces for a period of two months. This power was subsequently extended twice, each time for 60 days. The current extension adds another 60 days to their authority.
