Government Approves Procurement of LNG Cargo and SPC Poles to Bolster Energy and Power Distribution

Dhaka: The government today approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo of LNG and 72,897 SPC poles as part of efforts to meet the rising demand for energy and enhance the power distribution infrastructure in the country. The approvals were granted during the 11th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year, held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Petrobangla will procure one cargo of LNG from M/S Excelerate Energy, LP, USA, through international quotation from the spot market, following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. The procurement will involve approximately Taka 664.40 crore, with the cost of LNG per MMBtu set at US$14.30.



In a series of proposals from the Power Division, the government has sanctioned the procurement of 72,897 SPC poles to reinforce the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board’s (BREB) distribution system. The first proposal involves acquiring 24,300 SPC poles from Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited for roughly Taka 76.68 crore under the “BREB Power Distribution System Modernization and Capacity Enhancement (Khulna Division) Project.”



An additional proposal outlines the procurement of another set of 24,300 SPC poles from Charka SPC Poles Ltd JV in collaboration with DADA Engineering Ltd, TSCO Power Limited, and Pasha Poles Ltd, Bangladesh, amounting to around Taka 76.65 crore. A further proposal includes the acquisition of 24,297 SPC poles from Poltes and Concrete Limited JV alongside Contech Construction Limited, Royel Green Products Ltd, and Sheltech Technology, costing approximately Taka 76.61 crore.



Moreover, following a proposal from the Ministry of Shipping, the government will ensure the procurement of essential works and commodities on a G2G basis under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for the Expansion and Development of Mongla Port Facilities project, amounting to about Taka 4,046.48 crore.



Additionally, in response to a proposal from the Local Government Division, consultancy services titled “Detailed Engineering Design for Water Supply and Sanitation for Cumilla, Ishwardi Cluster Towns, and Khagrachhari Town (DED-CTK)” under the CHT integrated and sustainable poura water supply and sanitation project have been awarded to Dohwa-DEVCON-IWM JV, costing approximately Taka 44.41 crore.



Advisers and secretaries concerned attended the meeting, ensuring comprehensive discussions on the proposals at hand.
