Dhaka: A fact-finding committee has identified more than a hundred individuals involved in the attacks on Dhaka University (DU) students during the July Uprising, which occurred from July 15 to August 5. Kazi Mahfuzul Islam Supon, the committee’s convener and an associate professor in the law department, presented a comprehensive 550-page report to DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan at a meeting held at the lounge adjacent to the VC’s office today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Supon emphasized the committee’s efforts to document all incidents of violence that took place on the Dhaka University campus during the specified period. He highlighted that the attacks, particularly those targeting female students on July 15, appeared to be premeditated. The report also uncovered evidence implicating DU students in the violent events.

In detailing the methodology behind the report, Supon mentioned the absence of CCTV footage as a challenge. To compensate, the committee reached out to students via email and phone, soliciting information and evidence related to the attacks. In response, students provided various pictures and videos documenting the violence that occurred in July. Additionally, the report drew on coverage from both national and international newspapers to corroborate their findings.

The formation of the four-member fact-finding committee by Dhaka University authorities was a response to the urgent need to identify those responsible for the violent incidents on campus during the July Uprising.
