Dhaka: Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) who was brutally killed by the outlawed organization Bangladesh Chhatra League, is set to be awarded the Swadhinata Padak posthumously. This honor is in recognition of his self-sacrifice and is the highest civilian accolade in the country.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain announced the news on his verified Facebook account, where he reflected on Abrar's sacrifice. In his post, he described Abrar Fahad as a symbol of bravery against injustice and a reflection of free thinking. The adviser emphasized that awarding the Swadhinata Padak-2025 (Independence Award) posthumously acknowledges Abrar's self-sacrifice.

The adviser also noted that Abrar's ideology continues to enlighten and inspire the nation to pursue justice. He expressed that the nation will not forget Abrar Fahad, whose tragic murder in 2019, as a student of electrical and electronic engineering at BUET, sparked significant reactions across the country.
