Dhaka: Home Affairs Ministry today stated that the claim of a rape incident on a moving bus bound for Rajshahi on the night of February 17 is not true. The ministry issued a press release clarifying the matter.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press release highlighted that the claim of a rape incident on the “Unique Road Royals” bus traveling from Dhaka to Rajshahi on the specified date was refuted. The statement was based on an analysis of a video clip provided by the Superintendent of Police of Tangail, in which a female passenger on the bus recounted that a robbery had occurred, but no rape took place. The video showed the female passenger making her statement openly.

The female passenger, identified as Lipi Barman, 20, is a resident of Helencha village in Mahadevpur Upazila, Naogaon district. She is the daughter of Dwijen Chandra Barman and the wife of Rajkumar. Lipi Barman’s testimony was a crucial element in debunking the rape claim, according to the press release from the Home Affairs Ministry.
