Dhaka: The interim government’s adviser for the ministries of Information and Broadcasting, and Post, Telecommunications and ICT, M Nahid Islam, resigned from his post today. He submitted his resignation letter to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and simultaneously stepped down from all government committees.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid Islam briefed reporters in front of the State Guest House Jamuna, stating, “I have submitted my resignation to the Chief Adviser.” Nahid joined the council of advisers after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government following a student-people movement on August 5, 2024. The interim government was subsequently formed on August 8, with Nahid Islam, a coordinator of the anti-discrimination students movement, taking a significant role.

Nahid Islam took charge of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. In his resignation letter, Nahid expressed that in the current context, he believes it is important to align himself with the students and people for the greater interest of the nation, which necessitated his resignation.

He also conveyed his gratitude to Chief Adviser Prof Yunus for leading the interim government and striving to build a country free from discrimination, hunger, and poverty.
