Dhaka: Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari paid a courtesy call on Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today. During the meeting, they discussed in detail the potential for increasing trade volume between the two countries, power supply, boosting connectivity, and the upcoming Nepal Economic Summit.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Commerce Adviser emphasized the need for enhanced connectivity to ensure economic development for both nations, as stated in a Commerce Ministry press release. Bashir highlighted Bangladesh’s interest in developing a long-term strategic partnership with Nepal, which he believes would be mutually beneficial by increasing trade volumes.

The Nepalese Ambassador described the relationship between Nepal and Bangladesh as ‘historical’ and ‘excellent’, noting that Nepal imports agricultural products from Bangladesh. The discussion also touched on the tripartite agreement signed last year between Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, which allows Bangladesh to import electricity from Nepal via India, with a provision of 40 MW from June to November 2025.

Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed optimism about increasing the volume of electricity exports in the future. He also extended an invitation to the Commerce Adviser to participate in the upcoming Nepal Economic Summit to be held in Nepal.

The meeting was attended by Commerce Secretary (Routine Charge) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter.
