Couple Electrocuted in Shariatpur While Protecting Maize Field

Shariatpur: A man and his wife died after being electrocuted at Baliakandi village in Jajira upazila of the district on Saturday morning. The victims were Idris Khan, 65, and his wife Shefali Begum, 60, residents of the same village.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police reported that Idris Khan had recently set up an electric trap using a wire to protect his maize field from wild animals, particularly porcupines. On the morning of the incident, Idris Khan and his wife went to the field around 8 am without disconnecting the electric line.



As Idris Khan entered the field, he was electrocuted and fell to the ground. In an attempt to save her husband, Shefali Begum also came into contact with the live wire and was electrocuted, resulting in her immediate death.



Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge South Police Station Akram Hossain confirmed the tragic incident.
