Jamaat Calls for Elections Following Reforms Completion

Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami today urged the Election Commission (EC) to hold a free, fair, impartial, and participatory national election after the completion of desired reforms. A six-member delegation led by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar participated in the meeting, emphasizing the need for a transparent electoral process.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the party presented a written statement demanding a free, fair, impartial, acceptable, and meaningful election. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and four election commissioners were present during the meeting.



The Jamaat delegation included assistant secretary general and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad, central committee executive member and secretary of the publicity and media wing Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, central committee executive member Advocate Muhammad Jasim Uddin Sarkar, and Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Kamal Uddin.



Following the meeting, Prof Golam Parwar highlighted the importance of improving the law and order situation to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election. He stressed the need for people to freely participate in the elections and exercise their voting rights. He also pressed for the prompt completion of reforms to create an environment conducive to fair elections.



Jamaat-e-Islami expressed its willingness to allow as much time as needed for reforms to ensure the elections are free, fair, and impartial, without setting any specific date or time limit for the completion of these reforms.
