Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced a potential policy shift regarding the issuance of passports to Bangladeshi nationals, suggesting the removal of the police verification process. This statement was made during the inauguration of a new feature allowing passport applicants to lodge complaints through the national emergency service “999” at the Home Ministry conference room.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser expressed the government’s intent to simplify the passport issuance process by considering the withdrawal of police verification. This move aims at streamlining the procedure for Bangladeshi nationals seeking passports. When questioned about the timeline for implementing this change, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury requested patience, stating, “You will have to give us a little time for this.”

Additionally, during the same event, the Home Adviser launched an Online App to facilitate Visa on Arrival (VoA) or Transit Visa applications for foreign nationals. This initiative is part of a broader effort to simplify visa issuance processes for foreign visitors to Bangladesh.
