Kushtia: Islamic University Model United Nations Association (IUMUNA) today organised a diplomatic marathon aiming to sharpen the thinking capabilities and enhance knowledge about ongoing international and national affairs for the students of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia. The event was inaugurated at IU’s Mir Mosharraf Hossain Academic Building this morning, with around 150 students from different departments, mostly from the 2022-23 and 2023-24 sessions, participating in the daylong programme.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. Kazi Mostafa Arif of the Department of Economics addressed the event as the chief guest, while Former Vice-President of IUMUNA Nahid Hasan presided over the event. Special guests included Prof Dr. Nilufa Akhter Banu of the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department and Assistant Prof Shariful Islam Jewel of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
The marathon was divided into three sections: a quiz on national and international affairs, a problem-solving test on global issues, and a public speaking task. Shakira Islam of the Economics Department, from the 2022-23 session, secured the first prize by excelling in all rounds.
President of IUMUNA, Afzalul Haque, stated, “IUMUNA is a prestigious organisation of Islamic University. Like other organisations, we educate our members with specialized skill sets that will help them to update with the changing world. We will bring more events like this to enhance students’ leadership skills.”
General Secretary Nazmus Sakib Jitu added, “We have organised such an event after a long time. We’ve organized the programme to spread our activities to the IU newcomers. Through this marathon, students will achieve some basic skills like public speaking and critical thinking ability. This will also lead them to develop strong communication skills.”
