Barobari: BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today urged the interim government to hold the general elections in the quickest possible time to restore democratic rights of the people. "The people of the country are yet to get back their voting rights after ousted fascist Sheikh Hasina's regime," he told a discussion on 'Shaheed Zia Memorial Football Tournament' at Barobari Shaheed Abul Kashem College playground here. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the senior BNP leader emphasized that the people are not interested in hearing any new words but are eagerly waiting for the opportunity to cast their votes. He called upon everyone to come forward to build a new Bangladesh as envisioned by Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman. Roy insisted that they must win this journey of movement for those who believe in Bangladeshi nationalism. The BNP has already placed 31-point reform proposals and suggested that the interim government engage in dialogue with other political part ies. Roy highlighted the importance of consensus-based reforms and insisted that political issues should be resolved by the politicians themselves. The meeting also featured speeches from other prominent figures, including Asadul Habib Dulu, organizing secretary of BNP for Rangpur division and former deputy minister, Forhad Hossain Azad, Rural Development Affairs secretary, Engineer Ishraq Hossain, BNP International Affairs committee member, and AKM Mominul Haque, member secretary of the tournament and joint secretary of the district BNP. The football tournament, which brought together BNP leaders and activists from eight districts of the Rangpur division, saw Panchagar BNP XI triumph over Lalmonirhat BNP XI with a 3-0 victory. Over one lakh football fans attended the event, with the final competition scheduled for November 28.
