Gaibandha: Speakers in a function here today underscored the need for disposing of the Santal killing case immediately to establish rule of law in society. They made these remarks while addressing a protest rally at Mukta Manch of Gaibandha Natya and Sangskritik Sangstha of the town, marking the Santal Killing day. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the speakers highlighted that Rangpur Sugar Mill authorities, in association with local influential figures and the police administration of the government led by Sheikh Hasina, launched an attack on the Santal community in the name of eviction on November 6, 2016. The attack resulted in the vandalization of homesteads, arson, and police shootings, leaving three Santal men-Shyamol Hemrom, Mongal Mardy, and Romesh Tudu-dead and many injured. Following the incident, Thamas Hembrom filed a case accusing 33 individuals, including local lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The speakers expressed frustration over the nine-year delay in the trial, leaving the victims' relatives disheartened. The protest rally was organized by Adibashi-Bangali Sanghati Parishad, Sahebganj Bagdafarm Bhumi Uddhar Sangram Committee, Jatiya Adibashi Parishad, ALRD, and civic organization Jana-Uddyog. Executive director of ALRD and land rights worker Shamsul Huda, teacher of Dhaka University Robayet Ferdous, lawyer of high court Adv. Minhazul Haque Chowdhury, President of Poribesh Andolon district unit Waziur Rahman Raphel, convener of Adibashi-Bangali Sanghati Parishad Adv. Sirajul Islam Babu, Member Secretary of Jana-Uddyog Probir Chakrabartee, convener of Adibashi-Bangali Sanghati Parishad, Sadar upazila unit, Golam Rabbani Musa, Adibashi leader Pricila Murmu, and plaintiff of the Santal killing case Thamas Hembrom addressed the rally.
