Dhaka: Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury reiterated that no criminals would be spared. "Government in no way will spare any criminal whatever powerful they are irrespective of their party affiliation," he said while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat after emerging from a special meeting to review the law and order situation in Dhaka Metropolitan areas. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the home adviser has directed law enforcement agencies to put an end to all forms of extortion. "Make sure that no extortion takes place anymore," he emphasized. He also explained that the meeting's agenda included discussions on further improving the law and order situation in Dhaka. "Our law and order situation (in Dhaka) have improved a lot compared to the past. But, there is still a scope to improve it further," he added. The home adviser highlighted security measures implemented in the Mohammadpur area as a model for future efforts. "The situation of Mohammadpur is tolerable now. We h ave to work in other areas following the model," he stated, suggesting that successful strategies from Mohammadpur would be applied elsewhere. Additionally, he instructed the relevant authorities to evict shops set on the roads and restrict battery-driven rickshaws from using the main city streets. However, he clarified that his directive was limited to removing shops from roads, not footpaths. Representatives from the army, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were present at the meeting to discuss these measures.
