Rangpur: Journalists are the pillar of the country and news is the mirror of society as only journalists can call and write white as white and black as black. "We can see and know the image of the country and society through journalists," said newly appointed Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam in a view exchange meeting with the journalists at his conference room here yesterday afternoon. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shahidul Islam emphasized Rangpur's historical significance as the origin of various movements, highlighting the second independence achieved through Shaheed Abu Sayeed's sacrifice and the student-mass movement. He expressed his ambition to contribute to the development of Rangpur by embracing the spirit of the July revolution in Shaheed Abu Sayeed's Bangladesh and serving the people of Rangpur division. Islam mentioned his visit to Abu Sayeed's grave in village Babanpur under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur shortly after assuming his role as the divisional commissioner. He also con veyed optimism about the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, development of the Shyamasundari Canal, reopening the closed sugar mills, and securing budget allocations for both Rangpur division and Rangpur City Corporation to foster regional development. The meeting was attended by Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md Azmal Hossain, Divisional Director of the Local Government Division Md Abu Jafar, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Asaduzzaman, and other officials.
