Dhaka: Jail Killing Day, which marks the tragic events of November 3, 1975, when four national leaders and heroes of Bangladesh’s Liberation War were brutally murdered inside Dhaka Central Jail, will be solemnly observed on Sunday. This event is considered the second most disgraceful incident in the nation’s history, following the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family on August 15, 1975.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the four leaders who were assassinated are Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain Mansur Ali, and AHM Quamruzzaman. The Awami League has announced that it will continue its tradition of observing this day with the utmost respect. The party released a statement on Friday detailing the planned commemorations.
To honor the memory of these leaders, wreaths will be laid at the graves of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, and Mansur Ali at Banani graveyard. In addition, tribute will be paid at the grave of AHM Qamaruzzaman in Rajshahi. The party also
plans to offer a special prayer in remembrance of the four national leaders and all martyrs of the Liberation War and democratic movements.
The Awami League has urged its leaders, activists, supporters, and allied organizations, as well as political, social, and cultural groups across Bangladesh, to participate in discussions and events that underscore the significance of Jail Killing Day. The party’s statement emphasizes the sacrifice of the four leaders as an inexhaustible source of inspiration during national crises and a timeless example of devotion to the Liberation War and the principles championed by Bangabandhu.
The statement concludes by asserting that the martyrdom of these leaders strengthens the resolve to stand against any force that threatens the ideals they upheld.
