Dhaka: Health officials today reported a surge in dengue cases, with 805 new cases and three deaths recorded in the past 24 hours. The rising number of cases has raised concerns among the health authorities in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released a statement detailing the distribution of the new cases. Of the 805 cases, 80 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 82 in Chattogram division, 156 in Dhaka division, 112 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 149 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas. Additionally, 97 cases were reported in Khulna division, 65 in Mymensingh division, 55 in Rajshahi division, seven in Rangpur division, and two in Sylhet division.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has reported a total of 70 deaths, with 23,978 people affected by the disease. In comparison, last year, dengue claimed 413 lives and affected 102,861 individuals across the country. Looking ahead to 2024, predictions suggest the disease may inflict 101,214 people and result in 575 deaths if the current trend continues.
