68 drugs traders surrendered in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Jan 21, 2017 (BSS)- A total of 68 alleged professional drugs traders and traffickers have willingly surrendered to police in the city on Friday .

They expressed their commitment of abstaining themselves from the anti-social activities forever and also took oath on the issue. They were also rehabilitated with cash money, sewing machines and rickshaw-vans.

On the occasion, Community Policing Forum organized the surrender and rehabilitation meeting at Golzarbag School playground under Rajpara Police Station.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Shafiqul Islam attended and addressed the meeting as the chief guest with Deputy Police Commissioner (West) AKM Nahidul Islam, in the chair.

RMP Deputy Commissioners Tanveer Haider Chowdhury and Tofayel Ahmed, Community Policing Forum President Azizul Alam Bentu and Managing Director of Barind Medical College and Hospital Md Shamsuddin also spoke. RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam thanked them for realizing their misdeeds and assured his all possible cooperation towards creating their alternative income sources as early as possible.

He also urged others to return back on the right track for betterment of the society.

Shafiqul Islam stressed on social responsibility to bring back the persons, the youths in particular, involved in trading, addiction and trafficking of drugs to normal life.

The communities side by side with the law-enforcing agencies and other government organizations concerned should come forward and work together to protect people from deadly consequences of the crimes, he added.
