3 snatchers get life term imprisonment for killing man in Ctg

A Chattogram court today awarded life term imprisonment to three snatchers for the killing a man in 23 years back.

The Judge of the Public Safety Tribunal of Chattagram Md Selim Meah pronounced the verdict convicting three snatchers Khurshed Alam, Mohammad Hasan and Md Jashim Uddin.

The court also fined them TK 10,000, in default, they will have to suffer more six months of jail.

The prosecution story in brief is that the convicted snatchers gunned down Md Hossain, hailed from Kurbanigonj area in the city under Kotwali thana while he tried to abstract them from snatching on his way to mosque to perform Johur prayer on January 6 in 2000.

Victimโ€™s son Mohammad Anwar Hossain, filed a case with Kotwali thana against four persons on that day.

Sub-Inspector Jahangir Alam submitted the charge sheet before the court on 27 June in 2002 while the court framed charges on April 5 in 2003.

The court pronounced the judgment after examining seven prosecutionโ€™s witnesses out of 16. The Judge delivered the verdict in presence of two convicts, court sources said.
