Joliot-Curie award made Bangabandhu a friend of world: Mozammel

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said Joliot-Curie award had made Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a friend of the world.

"The Bengali nation had become proud of the conferment of the Joliot-Curie Peace Medal to Bangabandhu simultaneously the world had also become proud of honoring a personality like Bangabandhu," he made the comments at a roundtable here, an official release said.

Sampriti Bangladesh organized the roundtable at the CIRDAP marking the 50th anniversary of Joliot-Curie award to Bangabandhu.

Former Appellate Division Judge Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, former vice chancellor of National University Prof Harun-Ar Rashid and vice chancellor of Barishal University Sadekul Arefin, among others, addressed the roundtable with convenor of Sampriti Bangladesh Pijush Bandyopadhyay in the chair.

Mozammel said, "The Joliot-Curie award is highly prestigious for establishing peace in the world. Leaders like Fidel Castro, Pablo Neruda, Nelson Mandela have received this award."

The young generation should know more about the Joliot-Curie award, he said.

The minister urged the researchers, writers to highlight the significance of the award to the people.

State minister for cultural Affairs KM Khalid said the conferment of Joliot-Curie award to Bangabandhu was a great honour for Bangali nation.

"Bangabandhu was a messenger of world peace," he said, adding Bangabandhu struggled for the liberation of humanity and the establishment of peace.
