Pabna: Three persons, including two school students, were killed and two others injured when a goods-laden truck ran over a passenger van in Pabna Sadar upazila this morning. The accident occurred around 7:30 am at Bangabaria area under Gayeshpur Union on the Dhaka-Pabna highway. The deceased were identified as Tasmiya Akter, a fourth grader, and Abu Toha, a fifth grader, both students of Pabna Collegiate School and College, while the other was the van driver, Akram Hossain.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police and witnesses reported that a group of eight to ten students was on their way to Collegiate School and College at Jalalpur in a battery-run van when a Pabna-bound truck from Dhaka hit the vehicle from behind. The collision resulted in the immediate death of the van driver and the two schoolchildren. Two pedestrians nearby were also seriously injured in the accident.
Upon receiving information, Madhpur Highway Police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and seized the truck. Vehicular movement on the highway was temporarily halted following the incident. Madhpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that three persons, including the van driver, were killed and two pedestrians were injured. “The bodies have been recovered, while the truck has been seized and legal procedures are underway,” he added.
