Magura: A three-day National Fruit Fair has commenced in Magura, celebrating the theme “Eat more local fruits, plant more fruit trees.” The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam, who served as the chief guest at the ceremony held on the Magura Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair is a collaborative effort by the District Administration and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). The event was presided over by Deputy Director of DAE Md. Tajul Islam, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdul Kader delivering the welcome speech. Several speakers at the event highlighted the nutritional benefits of local fruits, their significance in environmental conservation, and the necessity of encouraging farmers to increase fruit cultivation.
The speakers emphasized that locally-grown fruits are crucial not only for fulfilling nutritional requirements but also for contributing to the country’s economy. The fair, which will run until June 21, features six stalls displaying a variety of local fruits such as mangoes, jackfruits, litchis, guavas, and pineapples. In addition to the fruit displays, agricultural officials are on hand to offer guidance on fruit cultivation techniques, sapling production, and plantation methods.
The fairground is bustling with activity as people from different walks of life, including students and farmers, participate in the event. Organizers are optimistic that the fair will enhance the cultivation and popularity of indigenous fruits across the region.
