Dhaka: A total of 29 registered political parties, including BNP, Jatiya Party, and Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, have submitted their audit reports for the year 2024 to the Election Commission (EC) within the stipulated time. Md Shariful Alam, Director (Public Relations) of the EC Secretariat, confirmed this development today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, there are currently 50 registered political parties with the EC, of which 29 have submitted their audit reports. Additionally, ten parties have applied for an extension of the deadline. Meanwhile, the newly registered Bangladesh Development Party, which received its registration on February 2, is exempt from submitting a report for this year.
The remaining ten parties neither submitted their audit reports nor applied for an extension. There is a mandatory requirement for political parties to submit their annual income and expenditure audit reports to the EC by July 31 each year. The EC holds the authority to cancel the registration of any political party that fails to submit its audit report for three consecutive years. The requests for time extensions will be reviewed in an upcoming commission meeting, after which a decision will be rendered, an EC official source indicated.
