Dhaka: The government has officially renamed 27 government primary schools that were previously named after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members over the past 15 years. A notification detailing these changes, signed by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education's Deputy Secretary (School-2) Rebeka Sultana, was published on the ministry's website on Sunday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the names of the schools have been changed in accordance with the 'Government Primary School Naming and Existing Name Change Policy-2023'. The notification outlines several notable changes: Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Sutrapur, Dhaka is now Karkunbari Government Primary School, and Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Mohammadpur has been renamed to Tajmahal Government Primary School. Additionally, the 16 No Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Sadar, Naryanganj has been renamed 16 No Paikpara Paschim Government Primary School.
Further changes include the renaming of Panchbaria Hasina Wajed Government Primary School in Pangsha, Rajbari to Panchbaria Government Primary School, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University Government Primary School in Sadar, Gazipur is now Gazipur Agricultural University Government Primary School. Similarly, Char Sathraj Sheikh Russel Government Primary School in Bakerganj, Barishal has been changed to Char Sathraj Government Primary School.
Additionally, other schools have undergone name changes such as Dr MA Wajed Mia Government Primary School in Pirganj, Rangpur, which is now Subarnapukur Government Primary School. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Government Primary School in Phulpur, Mymensingh has been renamed Nayapara Government Primary School, while Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Muktagacha, Mymensingh is now Bhaluk Chapar Government Primary School.
The renaming initiative also includes the rebranding of Mujib Russel Bidhyapith Government Primary School in Jajira, Shariatpur to Hariasha Government Primary School, and Nitarkandi Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Bajitpur, Kishorganj, which is now Nitarkandi Government Primary School. Furthermore, Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Sadar, Khulna has been renamed Khalishpur Bangabasi Government Primary School.
