Two days after bail, Shah Rukh Khan’s son walks out of jail

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan walked out of Mumbai’s high-security Arthur Road prison to a rapturous welcome on Saturday morning, more than three weeks after his arrest in a cruise-on-drugs case.

Aryan was received outside the jail gate by none other than his father, and greeted by thousands of Shah Rukh’s fans. He had been in judicial custody since October 8.

The 23-year-old and his two friends — Arbaz Merchant and Mummun Dhamecha — were granted bail by the High Court in Mumbai on Thursday, as Shah Rukh roped in some of India’s top legal minds to argue for bail for Aryan in the drugs case.

On Friday afternoon, Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh’s close friend and co-star in many movies, went to the sessions court in Mumbai and signed Aryan’s bail bond of Indian rupees one lakh.

Among the 14 bail conditions listed by the Mumbai High Court are that Aryan, Arbaz and Mummun can’t leave the country and make any attempt to influence any witness in the drugs case. They were also asked to submit their passports to the court.

Aryan, particularly, has been asked to visit the federal anti-narcotics agency’s Mumbai office every Friday and join investigations whenever required. If any of the conditions is violated, his bail could be cancelled.

Aryan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 3 after hours of grilling in connection with a rave party the federal agency busted on board a cruise ship off Mumbai coast a day before.

During arguments in the High Court, the federal prosecutors told judges that this was not a case of drugs consumption only, “but that of conspiracy too”, and that Aryan had tried to sell narcotics in commercial quantity after procuring the same.

On Tuesday, India’s former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, who was roped in by Shah Rukh, argued in the court that Aryan was a “young man who should be sent to a rehab centre rather than jail”. He also crushes the federal prosecutors’ theory of conspiracy.

On the evening of October 2 evening, some 30 NCB sleuths, disguised as passengers, boarded luxury cruise liner ‘Empress’ which departed Mumbai port for the neighbouring state of Goa.

The cruise ship was carrying mostly celebrities from Bollywood and the fashion industry. As soon as the rave party began, the NCB sleuths swung into action and claimed to have caught red-handed those having drugs.

Aryan, his close friend Arbaaz, and eight others were soon detained. While two of the detainees had been freed after questioning, Aryan and seven others were subsequently arrested by the NCB.

Aryan’s father Shah Rukh is considered the most talented Bollywood star. Popularly called the “King Khan”, he has acted in over 80 films in a career spanning over 25 years.

Shah Rukh, in fact, rose to prominence after starring in 1995 romantic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, the longest-running blockbuster in the history of Indian cinema. The film was shot in India and Europe.

Some of his other blockbusters include ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ (1997) and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998). Shah Rukh was also widely praised for his superb performance in 2002 film ‘Devdas’, where he played an alcoholic.

The 55-year-old has also anchored many TV shows, and owns production company Red Chillies Entertainment and Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders.

Shah Rukh has a net worth of USD 700 million. The superstar is married to interior designer Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu. Apart from Suhana, they have two sons.

Webcam Buyer Guide & Price Ranges in Bangladesh

Webcams are very simple devices that may be integrated into a laptop, tablet or can be used as independent devices connected to a desktop. Additionally, some displays have built-in cameras.

Are you looking for a webcam for some specific purpose, like live streaming on YouTube, remote streaming into the workplace, or just catching up with faraway loved ones? This article discusses some tips to buy webcams along with some popular models available in Bangladesh.

Things to Consider while Buying a Webcam

These are a few critical factors to consider when purchasing a webcam. Additionally, users may use this page as a guide for purchasing a webcam.

Visual Resolution

This is critical. If users get a low-cost webcam, they will undoubtedly sacrifice video quality. Always attempt to purchase a webcam with a high-definition (1280 x 720 pixel) resolution. If it is more than this, it is preferable. On packaging, look for 720p and 1080p resolutions. There are now 4K cameras available, although they are somewhat expensive.

Frame Rate

Another critical factor is the frame rate. The greater the elevation, the better. Generally, get a camera with a frame rate of 30 fps or greater. On the webcam packing, look for the frame rate value.

Adjustability and Design

This is another critical point. There are two fundamental types of webcams: clip-on and freestanding. Users should determine whatever kind of webcam they desire. Clip-on cameras are ideal for thin displays and can be quickly attached to the monitor’s top. The standalone webcam demands more workspace.

Additionally, there must be some degree of flexibility to allow for optimal usage. Users cannot spend the whole time sitting erect in a chair. It should be inclined upward and downward. If the device is capable of 360-degree rotation, this will be an added benefit.

Lens

Webcams are available with either glass or plastic lenses. To ensure a clear picture and video quality, opt for a glass lens. The high-quality lens produces higher-quality images and movies. For instance, a high-quality Carl Zeiss lens provides pictures that are crisp, bright, and colorful. This feature is not usually specified on the packaging. Therefore, people should ensure that they get the correct one.

Autofocus

The majority of inexpensive webcams have a fixed focus. This indicates that people must be within a certain distance range while utilizing a camera. If their webcam is equipped with autofocus, they don’t have to adhere to the distance range guideline.

Bangladeshi investors should eye untapped Africa: Experts

Speakers at a webinar on Saturday said Bangladeshi entrepreneurs can invest in manufacturing and agricultural sectors of some African countries under African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) to expand export to the US market.

They said Africa is a big continent with huge investment opportunities even though the trade share of Bangladesh is remarkably very low for lack of PTA/FTA, tariff and non-tariff barriers and infrastructure.

The speakers came up with the remarks in the webinar titled “Trade & Investment Cooperation of Africa and Bangladesh: Towards a new Trajectory” held on the fifth day of Bangladesh Trade and Investment Summit 2021.

“Private sector needs to be aggressive to invest both at home and abroad. Food processing and agriculture have good prospects there. We’ve to grab the market,“ Planning Minister MA Mannan told the webinar.

As Bangladeshi entrepreneurs entered the African market, he suggested that they can invest more in that region with a plan.

DCCI President Rizwan Rahman in his presentation said the bilateral trade is about $1.5 billion between Bangladesh and Africa having a positive trade balance for Bangladesh. “Our export to Africa accounts for 1.02 per cent of Bangladesh’s our total export.”

Though African investment is declining in Bangladesh, Bangladeshi investment in Africa is on the gradual rise, he added.

The African investment in Bangladesh was recorded only $306 million.

AHM Ahsan, Vice Chairman and CEO, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), said African trade with the rest of the world in 2020 was $888 billion accounting for only 3 per cent of total global trade.

Last year, the intra-African trade volume of $133 billion was heavily influenced by African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), he said.

“Our trade with Africa is significantly low compared to other regions. Bangladesh exports to only 5-6 countries of Africa. Their high import tariff is an obstacle to export increase. But the service sector is a potential sector for investment,” he added.

Md Tarikul Islam, DG Africa Wing, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Africa is a resourceful country having enormous potentials.

“African investment in Bangladesh is not remarkable due to their restrictions over foreign investment. But textiles, pharmaceuticals, footwear, RMG, leather, paper and pulp, ship breaking and agriculture are some of the sectors they can invest in. The visa process for African investors will be eased,” he said.

Abdus Samad Al Azad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Muhammad Zahangir Alam, Director, Square Pharmaceuticals and M Mosaddek Hossain, Managing Director, UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals, among others, spoke at the webinar.

Vivo X70 Pro 5G Review: Can the Camera Specs Out Win the Rivals?

Vivo has added the X70 Pro 5G to its premium smartphone line-up. Vivo’s release of the phone elevated mobile photography, as well as a few other capabilities, to a new level. The phone made its debut in India on September 17th. The new smartphone finds a fair price-to-performance balance between the premium and mid-range phone segments. The Vivo X70 Pro is the entry-level model, but it packs a punch nevertheless.

Vivo X70 Pro 5G Full Review

Design

Vivo is well-known for producing attractive smartphones that feel luxurious despite their low pricing. We’ve seen their intermediate V-series, which has a small and lightweight design with respectable specs for the price. The same is true with the X70 Pro+.

The phone has a 158.3 x 73.2 x 8 mm glass body and several coatings applied on top to create a satin-ish, matte look. While the phone seems to be extremely high-end, the glass construction makes it a little slippery in the hand. I would recommend slapping on the device’s in-box case.

While all of Vivo’s smartphones introduced in India are compact, the X70 Pro is a heavyweight. As is the case with the majority of Android phones, Vivo has put the power and volume keys on the phone’s right side.

Having said that, although the power button is easily accessible, someone with little hands would have to engage in some finger acrobatics to get the volume button. Rather than placing the volume buttons above the power button, Vivo could have placed them on the frame’s left side.

Display

The Vivo X70 Pro has a 6.56-inch WQHD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2376 pixels. The display, which is quite crisp, becomes rather bright in broad day sunlight, peaking at 1300 nits. According to the business, the display will be capable of reproducing a billion colors and would include very natural-looking color tones.

The stunning AMOLED display boasts a 120 Hz refresh rate, which improves the software experience and is especially noticeable while playing games. The inclusion of a dual speaker configuration enhances content consumption and gaming on this smartphone.

The X70 ProVivo X70 Pro provides a rich experience whether you’re viewing films or playing games on the device, thanks to the bright and brilliant display and strong, clear speakers. I saw no latency when scrolling or playing Call of Duty: Mobile and BGMI at the 120 Hz refresh rate setting; more on this in the performance section.

Rear Cameras

The camera configuration is identical to previous Vivo phones, however, the 32MP 2x telephoto camera has been replaced with a 12MP 2x shooter with optical image stabilization. Moreover, it has a 12MP ultra-wide camera with micro gimbal stabilization and an 8MP periscope lens. The primary camera remains the same 50MP wide lens. Additionally, Vivo says that by using high-transmittance glass lenses and Zeiss’ T* lens coating, lens flare will be eliminated. Additionally, the phone has a unique V1 imaging chip that lowers noise and maximizes efficiency.

The images captured with the primary camera achieved an excellent blend of saturated colours and realistic tones. Additionally, you can anticipate a pleasingly broad dynamic range here, but I thought the images to be a touch contrasty and over-processed at times.

Additionally, the big sensor size leads to a shallow depth of focus, which means that you may get a reasonable amount of background blur without switching to portrait mode. The disadvantage is that you will sometimes need to move back while taking close-up images with the primary camera.

Front Camera

In comparison, the front camera, with its 32MP sensor, is a mediocre performance. The details are off, the colors are a little washed out, and the bokeh effect is off.

Vivo has also included a few more Zeiss portrait settings on the phone, which are typically very nice. It is not flawless, but it had minimal difficulty with the backdrop items that had pop-up colors. In portrait images, skin tone of a subject was noticeably different, which is most likely due to exposure or white balance changes.

Performance, Software and UI

A 6nm Octa-core MediaTek MT6893 Dimensity 1200 5G processor provides strong support to all the phone’s functionalities. It combines with a powerful Mali-G77 MC9 GPU responsible for delivering quality visuals for videos and games.

At the performance evaluation with Call of Duty: Mobile, BGMI, and Fortnite, the phone performed flawlessly. The touch sampling rate was perfectly accurate, with no lag or delay. It’s a marvelous fact that the phone delivered an outstanding gaming experience even with high graphics quality and maximum frame rate. Throughout the game, the two speakers created a really immersive audio experience. Strangely, the 4D vibration function did not operate with Call of Duty: Mobile, despite the fact that it was meant to.

Additionally, the phone did not overheat during gaming sessions or while downloading a major update; it only became slightly warm. The phone did not overheat when using the camera or gaming for lengthy periods of time, which is a very positive sign. These are rather good ratings that put them on par with flagship smartphones.

Battery and Charging

While the Vivo X70 Pro packs a large 4450 battery, its battery life is much improved over its predecessor. The energy-efficient E5 AMOLED display deserves recognition. The smartphone comfortably survived a whole day, with a screen on time of more than six hours.

Battery life degrades with greater gaming and binge-watching, but this is to be anticipated. Even so, the X70 Pro has one of the greatest battery lives of any smartphone in its price range.

The smartphone is packed with a 44W Flash Charge adapter, which charges the battery to 60% in 30 minutes and to 100% in an hour.

Price in Bangladesh

The phone series is still not available in Bangladesh officially. However, if price in India gets converted to BDT, the X70 Pro will cost BDT 53,582 for the 8GB+128GB configuration, BDT 57,000 for the 8GB+256GB configuration, and BDT 60,424 for the 12GB+256GB configuration. The conversion rate here is 1.51.

Verdict

The Vivo X70 Pro is a well-balanced premium smartphone packaged in a mid-range packaging. It puts up a fight in key categories like design, camera, and battery life. While there are some phones that perform better than the X70 Pro, the Vivo smartphone shines in certain areas. While the absence of stereo speakers, wireless charging capabilities, and mediocre performance are some areas where we believe the smartphone falls short, the remainder of the package remains competitive enough to compete with the fiercest competitors.

’Tigers still have plenty to take from WC’

After losing three matches on the trot, T20 international captain Mahmudullah Riyad has said that Bangladesh still have plenty to take from the ongoing ICC World Cup.

Every team has five matches to play in the Super 12 stage of the World Cup. Bangladesh played three of them and lost all. Their latest defeat came at the hands of the West Indies.

In the next two matches, Bangladesh will take on South Africa and Australia on November 2 and 4, respectively.

“We understand that our chances to reach the semi-finals is slim now,” Mahmudullah said. “We still have plenty to take from the World Cup. It would be great if we can win the last two matches. We have been putting our best foot forward to do well, to keep our commitment.”

It was expected that the Tigers would reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. But after having a fragile start — losing to Scotland in the first match of Round 1 — Bangladesh lost their positive vibe. They never were able to get the rhythm back that they displayed against New Zealand and Australia.

Bangladeshi fielders missed at least five regulation catches in the last three matches, which have cost the Tigers a lot.

In the first match of the Super 12s, Liton Das missed two catches which eventually became the main reason behind Bangladesh’s defeat. And in the third match, which was against the West Indies, Mahedi Hasan missed two catches and Afif Hossain missed one.

Bangladesh needed to score 22 runs in the last two overs against the West Indies. But they managed 18 and lost the match by three runs.

“I feel that we had been batting well,” Mahmudullah said. “The partnership between me and Liton was planned, and we had been going to seal the match. But Liton’s dismissal at the boundary prevented us from getting the first win. After that, it was my responsibility to pull off the match but I couldn’t. I can only blame myself.”

Move to implement Teesta plan with Chinese support a timely step: Farakka Committee

Leaders of the International Farakka Committee (IFC) have extended their support to the government’s initiative to implement the Teesta Master Plan with Chinese support, saying it is a proper and timely move.

Expressing their grave concerns over the recent flooding, the IFC said an untimely flood disaster along the Teesta in Bangladesh has caused extensive damages to the property of lakhs of people along its two banks.

Thousands of dwelling houses and homesteads have been washed away with riverbank erosion. Standing crops on lakhs of acres of land have been damaged while roads and embankments have been eroded snapping road-links among the districts of the greater Rangpur region.

“In this context, we consider the initiative taken by the government to implement a Teesta master plan with the help of China is a proper and timely one,” the statement said.

“Although this project is no substitute for keeping the river alive by ensuring its natural flow, it’s expected to help reduce the damages caused by floods and help improve the lot of the people of the region through coordinated development activities. The river will get a new life when time will come to restore its natural flow,” it said.

The committee said the disaster has been caused by the discharge of floodwater through the Gajoldoba Barrage floodgates following excessive rainfall along the upper catchment of the Teesta in Sikkim.

Embankments at about 17 places in the upper Teesta were damaged by the floods. But the Bangladesh authorities were not alerted before releasing the water. Only two weeks before, the Teesta in Bangladesh was a dry barren land as all water was diverted from Gajoldoba Barrage in West Bengal, added the statement.

The Teesta River in Bangladesh is a dead river during the dry season. Despite repeated assurances, no treaty has been signed for the management of the river’s water. People now can walk on foot from one bank of the river to the other, according to the statement.

Only seepage from the Gajal Doba barrage flows into Bangladesh. During the monsoon, the river causes disastrous floods, the statement pointed out.

According to one account, five waves of flood came down the Teesta in 2021 but a disastrous flood as late as October was never experienced before.

The statement said last week’s flood disaster has caused extensive losses to at least 80,000 families, according to a preliminary estimate. The damaged property include ripe paddy, onion, garlic, maize, animal fodder, homesteads, clothes, preserved winter garment and household crockery and utensils.

Bangladesh must do something to pull out three crore people of the Teesta basin from this helpless situation, protect their lives and property and maintain its environmental balance. Bangladesh cannot sit idle in the face of people’s miseries, the statement added.

The committee leaders suggest the Teesta Master Plan can be expanded to cover other rivers – Atrai, Korotoa and Punarbhaba, including Chalan Beel which lie in the old Teesta Basin – to ensure overall socio-economic development of the Northwestern region of Bangladesh. This will help recharge groundwater and keep all the tube-wells functional throughout the year.

The signatories to the statement were – Atiqur Rahman Salu, chairman, Sayed Tipu Sultan, secretary general, IFC, New York; Prof. Jasim Uddin Ahmad, President, Dr. SI Khan, Senior Vice-President, Syed Irfanul Bari, general secretary of IFC Bangladesh and Mostafa Kamal Majumder, coordinator of IFC.

Bangladesh to play a significant role at COP26: FM

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday said Bangladesh will play a very significant role at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) that is set to begin in Glasgow on Sunday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), will lead the Bangladesh delegation at the COP26 Summit.

“Under Prime Minister’s leadership, Bangladesh will play a very important role at the COP26 Summit,” Dr Momen told reporters at a media briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen were also present.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave for the United Kingdom on Sunday to attend the COP26 and other bilateral meetings.

The Prime Minister is scheduled leave for Glasgow at 9am on Sunday and will reach there at 2:45pm (local time).

The COP26 summit, hosted by the UK, will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

She will address the key segment of the COP26 on November 1. The same day, the Prime Minister will attend a joint meeting of the CVF and Commonwealth as the chief guest.

Hasina will also attend a meeting titled “Action and Solidarity-the critical decade” at the invitation of her British counterpart Boris Johnson on November 1. On November 2, the Prime Minister will attend a meeting titled “Women and Climate.”

The Foreign Minister said the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with her British counterpart Boris Johnson, Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and other leaders during her visit there.

After Glasgow, she will visit London from November 3 to 8 before heading towards Paris, France.

Meanwhile, “Dhaka-Glasgow Declaration” is likely to be adopted during the COP26 to address the climate change related challenges.

The Prime Minister is likely to deliver a speech on “A Call for Climate Prosperity.”

In London, she will deliver a speech for the British MPs at the Palace of Westminster and will join a virtual investment summit hosted by Bangladesh.

Earlier, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson emphasised the need for urgent climate action, pinpointing that there are three areas where Bangladesh has a particular role to play at COP26.

Mentioning that the world has a lot to learn from Bangladesh, he said this is the last opportunity to avoid dangerous climate change and secure a brighter future for everyone on the planet.

The High Commissioner said there are three areas where Bangladesh had a particular role to play at the COP26.

First, he said, as a leader on climate adaptation and a country highly vulnerable to climate change, Bangladesh could make the moral case for increased investment in adaptation as well as offering its practical experience as one of the founding members of the Adaptation Action Coalition, which puts a particular emphasis on the locally-led adaptation on the ground.

Secondly, Dickson said, Bangladesh could show leadership on mitigation by publishing an ambitious nationally determined contribution (NDC).

The High Commissioner commended the radical transformation of Bangladesh’s forward energy plans, including the removal of significant elements of coal-fired power from the plans that the government has to generate the electricity that Bangladesh needs to power its economic growth.

The UK hoped Bangladesh would be ambitious in this space.

Third, the High Commissioner said, Bangladesh had a particular role to play at the COP26 through the Prime Minister as the Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum, which brings together 48 climate vulnerable countries.

Bangladesh’s international leadership will be important in ensuring sufficient pressure is applied to the big emitters by the climate-vulnerable to reach the ambitious global deal that will be needed, he said.
