Jamalpur: The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) is set to distribute air flow machines to local farmers as part of an initiative to aid in the preservation of onions, known for their high perishability.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, 20 farmers in the Jamalpur district will benefit from this initiative, receiving one air flow machine each along with Tk 28,000 in cash to enhance their onion storage capabilities. These machines are capable of preserving approximately 300 maunds of onions for up to nine months, addressing a significant challenge in onion storage and preservation.

The government has allocated Tk 5,60,000 to implement this program within the district. Under the distribution plan, seven farmers each from Jamalpur Sadar and Islampur upazilas will receive the machines. Additionally, two farmers from Dewanganj upazila, and one farmer each from Sarishabari, Melandah, Madarganj, and Bakshiganj upazilas will be provided with the machines.

The DAE office has stated that the distribution of these incentives to the farmers will commence soon, aiming to bolster the local agricultural economy and reduce post-harvest losses.
