SAO PAULO: A two-day Global South Media and Think Tank Forum, the first of its kind, began on Monday in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event was co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the Brazil Communication Company, under the theme “Development and Revitalization: A New Journey for the Global South.”
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, nearly 350 representatives from 170 media outlets, government agencies, enterprises, and other institutions from 70 countries and regions participated in the forum. The attendees included Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), which was represented by its Managing Director and Chief Editor, Mahbub Morshed. During the plenary session, Morshed emphasized the importance of creating new narratives and value systems to foster multi-dimensional relationships among countries in the global south.
Morshed highlighted that each civilization and culture has developed under unique socio-economic, ethnic, and natural conditions, and the greatest civilizations have emerged from various parts of t
he world, each recognized for its distinctive culture and values. He noted that many people today are contemplating a new world order centered on equality, diversity, and a shared future for the common good of humankind and its environment.
He further stated that while development, economic cooperation, and business partnerships are critical narratives, there is also a need for a paradigm shift in worldview to better appreciate culture, civilization, and the concept of nationhood. He advocated for equal treatment of cultures, ethnicities, and value systems, regardless of a nation’s size.
At the opening ceremony, messages from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Lula da Silva were presented. Xinhua president Fu Hua and Brazil communication company president Jean Lima also addressed the inaugural ceremony. Experts and journalists from countries including China, Brazil, Russia, Venezuela, Chile, Kenya, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, Thailand, and Cambodia engaged in discussions on mutual coopera
tion and sharing among global south countries.
The forum is set to conclude today.
