Chattogram: As part of the government’s efforts to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply in the country, 14 oil-carrying ships arrived in Chattogram port till May 15, while five more will anchor within the current month.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BPC officials stated that a total of 19 ships are arriving in May, carrying a substantial load of 385,000 metric tons of diesel, 67,000 tonnes of jet fuel, 26,500 tonnes of octane, and 75,000 tonnes of furnace oil. Mohammad Zahid Hossain, General Manager of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), confirmed the arrival of 14 ships by mid-May and the impending arrival of an additional five vessels. He further mentioned the confirmation of 16 ships with refined and crude oil scheduled for June.

The oil-carrying ship ‘MT Fossil’ is en route to Chattogram, carrying 100,000 tonnes of crude oil, having departed last Monday evening, Bangladesh time. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek indicated that the vessel is expected to reach Chattogram Port on May 23, assuming all goes as planned.

On May 6, the oil tanker ‘MT Ninemia’ arrived at the Qutubdia Channel from Yanbu Port in Saudi Arabia, also carrying 100,000 tonnes of crude oil. This was followed by the arrival of two fuel tankers, carrying a combined total of 74,000 tonnes of diesel from Malaysia and Singapore, at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on May 11. These efforts are part of ongoing initiatives to maintain a stable fuel supply across the country.

With Bangladesh’s estimated daily diesel demand at approximately 12,500 tonnes, the imported fuel is anticipated to satisfy the national demand for over five days, ensuring continued support for the country’s energy needs.
