The 10th death anniversary of Mohammad Hanif, the first elected mayor of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) and former president of Dhaka City Awami League (AL), was observed today with due respect.
Hanif, who suffered critical splinter injuries in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack, died on November 28, 2006.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka City AL, Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation, front and associate bodies of the ruling AL and different socio-cultural organisations chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of his death anniversary.
Different social and cultural organizations paid tributes to Hanif by placing floral wreaths at his grave at Azimpur in the morning.
Besides, DSCC held a discussion on the life and works of Hanif, also a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Nagar Bhaban in the afternoon.
AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader joined the discussion.
Another memorial meeting was also organized at a community center at Azimpur where AL Joint General Secrecy Mahbub-ul Alam Hainf, Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokan and Dhaka City South Awami League General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad addressed the function, among others.
Dhaka City South Awami League President Abul Hasnat presided over.
