Dhaka: As part of the government’s move to relocate the police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to their own buildings, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will inaugurate newly constructed buildings for 10 police stations on September 1 next.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir highlighted in an exclusive interview that currently, 25 police stations in Dhaka city are without their own buildings. The government’s plan is to construct new buildings on their own lands for these police stations in phases. The inauguration of buildings for 10 police stations is a significant step toward this goal.
The Home Adviser emphasized the importance of transitioning all police stations to their own buildings to extend police services to every doorstep while modernizing and enhancing the quality of these services. He mentioned ongoing efforts to raise funds for these purposes, underscoring the duty of law enforcement agencies to serve the people diligently.
Addressing measures to improve law and order, Jahangir noted that the situation is gradually improving due to the government’s sincere efforts. He expressed optimism for further improvements over time.
Jahangir also mentioned plans to rebuild police stations damaged during the July uprising. He acknowledged the acute shortage of vehicles for the force and noted that the interim government is taking steps to purchase vehicles to improve police service delivery.
In addition, the Home Adviser announced changes to the police logo and uniform and vowed to continue nationwide operations to capture miscreants and recover firearms. He stated that law enforcement agencies have been directed to take immediate action against individuals destabilizing the country and warned of strict measures against police inaction.
Jahangir outlined several directives aimed at further enhancing law and order across the country and assured that the implementation of these decisions is being monitored round the clock.
He expressed gratitude to all involved, including law enforcement agencies, for ensuring the safety and security of citizens, particularly during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. The Home Adviser reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing proper accommodation and improved diets for the police force and shared his initiative to visit police stations to assess the conditions faced by police personnel.
