Khulna: The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted operations across the Khulna division on Sunday, resulting in fines totaling Tk 1.41 lakh for 10 business establishments due to irregularities such as selling goods at excessive prices and the illegal production of food items.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, eight DNCRP monitoring teams executed the simultaneous operations in various districts, including Khulna, Jashore, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Satkhira, and Magura. The teams checked prices and verified purchase vouchers for essential goods such as rice, edible oil, gas, vegetables, eggs, and medicines.
In the Daulatpur area of Khulna city, teams led by Assistant Directors Dinara Zaman and Pronab Kumar Pramanik imposed fines on several restaurants and shops for producing food under unhygienic conditions and for improper labeling practices.
In other districts, fines were levied as follows: Tk 25,000 in Jhenaidah, Tk 20,000 in Satkhira, Tk 10,000 in Magura, Tk 8,000 in Kushtia, Tk 5,000 in Jashore, and Tk 62,000 in Khulna district. Officials warned traders against charging prices above government-set rates and instructed them to display price lists visibly while maintaining proper sales records.
During the operations, business owners received advice to uphold hygiene standards and comply with consumer protection laws to prevent future punitive measures.
