Gaibandha: Speakers at a function emphasized the importance of students learning about the Right to Information (RTI) Act-2009 to become informed citizens of the country. They highlighted that understanding the RTI Act-2009 is crucial for citizens who wish to engage proactively and responsibly in civic matters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these remarks were made during the inaugural function of an orientation and quiz on the RTI Act-2009 held at the Gaibandha Adarsha College's hall room. The event was organized by the Sachetan Nagorik Committee (SNC), inspired by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), in collaboration with the Youth Engagement and Support (YES) Group. The college's principal, AKM ZargisQuader, presided over the function.
The event featured various notable speakers, including former SNC chairperson Professor Mazharul Mannan, current chairperson Afroja Begum Lupu, district trainer of the RTI Act-2009 Sarker Shahiduzzaman, and cultural personalities Shirin Akhter and Afroja Akhter Luna. They collectively urged students to develop a patriotic spirit and contribute positively to combatting corruption, aiming for a corruption-free Bangladesh.
During the event, TIB area coordinator Masud Rana provided an in-depth briefing on the RTI Act-2009 using multimedia resources. Participants also received guidance on filling out the 'ka form' to obtain information from relevant offices.
The program concluded with a quiz competition on the RTI Act-2009, where crests were awarded to the winners. The function saw attendance from over 300 students, teachers, and representatives from various organizations.
