U-19 World Cup: Bangladesh to start campaign taking on England Sunday

Holders Bangladesh will start their campaign in 16-team ICC Under-19 World Cup’ 2022 taking on England in their first match on Sunday at Warner Park in St Kitts.

The match will kick-off in the West Indies city at 7 pm (Bangladesh time).

The 16-team ICC Under-19 World Cup Cricket’2022 began on Friday with Sri Lanka and Australia making good start.

Sri Lanka (218 all out) beat Scotland (178 all out) by 40 runs in a Group D match at Georgetown while Australia (170/4) defeated hosts West Indies (169 all out) by six wickets in another Group D match at Province.

Bangladesh, which was placed in four-team Group A with England, Canada and the UAE, will play Canada on January 20 and UAE on January 22, both at Warner Park in St Kitts in their remaining group matches.

Earlier in the lone warm-up, the Young Tigers earned a convincing 155- run victory over Zimbabwe under D/L method in a rain affected match at Warner Park in St Kitts last Tuesday.

In the match, Bangladesh opened the innings first and piled up a comfortable 277 runs for all in 49.5 overs featuring 82 runs by Aich Mollah, 40 runs by Ariful Islam, 39 runs by Ripon Mondal, 36 runs by captain Rakibul Hasan and 33 runs by Mohammad Fahim.

Connor Mitchell was the most successful among the Zimbabwean bowlers grabbing four wickets conceding 30 runs while Mathew Schonken took two wickets for 48 runs.

Chasing a revised target of 256 runs, Zimbabwe were forced to fold their innings at 110 runs in 35.2 over to suffer a huge defeat.

Steven Saul (39), Tashinga Makoni (22), Brian Bennett (12), and Connor Mitchell (10) were the notable scorers for Zimbabwe .

Naimur Rahman captured three wickets for 18 runs while Ariful Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun took two wickets each conceding 6 and 15 runs respectively.
