Dhaka: Ziaur Rahman Foundation Vice-President Dr. Zubaida Rahman today visited 'Blue Sky', a Bangladesh Air Force-run school for children with special needs, and observed its educational, therapeutic, and developmental activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zubaida Rahman was welcomed as the chief guest by President of Bangladesh Air Force Women's Welfare Association (BAFWWA) and Others Women and Children Club (OWCC) Saleha Khan. The students of Blue Sky School greeted her with flowers upon her arrival.
During her visit, Zubaida Rahman, who is also the wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, toured various classrooms and observed activities aimed at the overall development of children with special needs. She also visited the hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology, and music therapy facilities at the school.
The school principal provided a briefing to Zubaida Rahman about the education and technical training programs, therapy facilities, medical emergency arrangements, and overall activities of the school. Currently, 28 specially trained teachers and therapists work at the institution, focusing on helping children lead healthy and normal lives.
Established by BAFWWA in 2021, the school maintains a ratio of one teacher and one assistant for every five students, ensuring individualized care and support. Additionally, assistant therapists are appointed under the technical education program to train children with special needs, aiming to help them become economically self-reliant.
Later in her visit, Dr. Zubaida Rahman viewed the BAFWWA Crafts and Boutique, the long-term training project, and the training activities of BAFWWA Industrial Home under the BAFWWA Corner. She observed various handicraft products made by the trainees.
Concluding her visit, Zubaida Rahman attended a cultural program featuring performances by students of Blue Sky School and BAFWWA Golden Eagle Nursery. The children showcased songs, dances, a fashion show, and other items. She expressed her appreciation for BAFWWA's humanitarian initiatives in providing education and therapy to children with special needs and supporting women's self-reliance.
The visit concluded with a photo session with the students of Blue Sky School. On behalf of BAFWWA and OWCC, Zubaida Rahman was presented a memento and a special gift-a portrait of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Saleha Khan delivered the welcome address at the program, and a video highlighting the activities of BAFWWA and Blue Sky School was screened. Group Captain Mohammad Nur Ullah (PSC), the principal of Blue Sky School, spoke at the event, which was attended by senior officials from the Bangladesh Air Force and representatives from BAFWWA.
