Dhaka: Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) Vice President and esteemed cardiologist Dr. Zubaida Rahman emphasized the importance of cultivating a habit of reading among children and teenagers. She addressed the audience during the inauguration of a nine-day Zia Smriti Book Fair 2026 at the Bangla Academy premises, where she served as the chief guest. The event marked the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr. Zubaida Rahman remarked on the transformative power of reading, suggesting that it instills values like justice, honesty, dedication, and perseverance in young minds. She expressed optimism that these values would resonate throughout Bangladesh, impacting both urban and rural communities.
Dr. Zubaida elaborated on how fostering reading habits could lead to increased tolerance, empathy, and respect among youth, envisioning them as future pillars of patience and integrity in society. She expressed her joy in participating in the book fair and hoped for the spread of libraries across Bangladesh's 90,049 villages.
Highlighting the significance of literature, Dr. Zubaida pointed out that books on the lives of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia showcase their resilience, sacrifices, and patriotism, serving as a beacon of inspiration for many. She thanked the organizers and wished for the success of the book fair, concluding her speech with a recitation of her poem, 'Tumi Nirbhik' (You Are Fearless), honoring the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
The event was enriched by the presence of National Professor Dr. Mahbub Ullah, who participated as the chief discussant. The program was chaired by Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, with the attendance of BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Farhad Halim Doner, Jatiya Press Club President and ZRF Executive Director Hasan Hafiz, and recitation artiste Rezaul Hossain Tito as special guests.
