Palash: BNP standing committee member and BNP-nominated candidate for the Narsingdi-2 constituency, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, emphasized the pivotal role of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in leading Bangladesh through times of crisis and establishing multi-party democracy. Dr. Khan made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a prayer and discussion meeting organized by Palash upazila BNP, marking the 90th birth anniversary of Ziaur Rahman.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Moyeen Khan stated that Ziaur Rahman was instrumental not only in declaring the War of Liberation in 1971 but also in fighting on the front lines due to his commitment to the country and its people. Ziaur Rahman served as the commander of Z Force during the Liberation War and was honored with the gallantry title Bir Uttam for his contributions.

The event was held at 4:00 pm at the BIDC Bus Stand in Palash upazila, where Dr. Moyeen Khan spoke about Ziaur Rahman’s dedication to serving the nation after his victorious return as a sector commander. He highlighted the leadership Ziaur Rahman provided during national crises and his role in introducing multi-party politics in Bangladesh.

Dr. Moyeen Khan also reflected on the period from 1972 to 1975 when the Awami League established autocratic rule through the one-party BAKSAL system. He noted the widespread protest against BAKSAL as citizens sought to establish democracy, a goal of the Liberation War.

He further assured that the BNP, founded by Ziaur Rahman and supported by his successor Tarique Rahman, remains committed to preventing the re-establishment of any form of autocracy in the country.

The event was attended by Palash upazila BNP President Abdur Sattar, General Secretary Saiful Haque, Senior Joint General Secretary Bahauddin Milton, Ghorashal Poura BNP General Secretary Delwar Hossain, along with other leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies. The meeting concluded with special prayers and munajat, seeking eternal peace for Ziaur Rahman’s departed soul.
