Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan emphasized the significance of the 1971 proclamation of independence by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, stating it provided crucial direction to the Bengali nation during a time of uncertainty.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khan highlighted in an exclusive interview how the proclamation inspired 75 million Bengalis during the Liberation War. He recalled the broadcast from the Kalurghat radio station on March 26, 1971, which acted as a catalyst, motivating people to join the war for their motherland.

Khan noted that in the pre-liberation period, small transistor radios were vital for disseminating news. Through these devices, Ziaur Rahman’s declaration reached the masses, continuing to resonate throughout the war’s nine months via the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.

The minister stated that for freedom fighters, Rahman’s declaration symbolized strength and inspiration, fostering unity and courage nationwide. This message instilled confidence in the hearts of the 75 million people, urging them to confront the Pakistani occupation forces.

Khan concluded that in the history of the Liberation War, the proclamation was not merely a beginning, but a critical component on the path to ultimate victory.
