Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today highlighted the efforts of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in fostering entrepreneurship through microcredit. Fakhrul mentioned that during Ziaur Rahman's tenure, microloans were made available at a 2 percent interest rate to stimulate entrepreneurial activities in underdeveloped areas of the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul made these remarks at a discussion held with entrepreneurs and leaders from small ethnic groups at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan. He emphasized the impact of such financial initiatives, noting a significant increase in the number of entrepreneurs in those regions. Fakhrul stressed that true nationalists who prioritize the welfare of the people and the country undertake such actions.
During the event, the BNP Secretary General listened to the concerns of entrepreneurs from small ethnic groups and assured them of the party's support. Fakhrul promised that if BNP returns to power, it would facilitate financial aid through low-interest loans for female entrepreneurs from these groups. He reiterated BNP's commitment to advocate for and work alongside small ethnic communities, addressing their basic needs and political inclusion.
Fakhrul also recalled the emphasis on supporting female entrepreneurs during the leadership of both President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. The event saw participation from members of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council, including Bijan Kanti Sarkar and Mrigen Hagidok, as well as female entrepreneurs Shantanu Snita Nokrek and Swapna Azim, who shared their challenges.
