Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Monday announced that the government will implement a zero-tolerance policy against any unethical hindrances to the activities of mainstream media. He emphasized that no individual will face harassment through fabricated cases without specific crimes or allegations.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister asserted that the media operates independently and without any governmental control under the current administration. His remarks came during an Eid-ul-Azha greeting exchange with journalists at the Secretariat.
In response to a question about a recent incident involving an attack on journalists at a city hospital, Swapon highlighted the media's role in presenting information transparently to the public. He underlined the joint responsibility of the state and society to support the media's work.
Swapon also emphasized the necessity of ensuring the professional safety and security of journalists. He assured that the government will take appropriate measures after investigating the incident thoroughly.
