Rangunia:Two youths were detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Rangunia with 18,890 packets of smuggled cigarettes valued at Tk 8,303,400. The operation also led to the seizure of a dump truck used in the smuggling activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detainees were identified as Touhidul Islam, 21, from Nishchitpur village, and Sahedur Islam Nayan, 22, from Shilok village. They were apprehended during a raid conducted at approximately 4:00 am in the Eco-park area along Chattogram-Kaptai Road.
Lieutenant Colonel Kawsar Mehedi, Commander of the Kaptai Battalion (BGB-41), reported that the search of the truck revealed 17,090 packets of "Patron" cigarettes and 1,800 packets of "Oris" cigarettes. Both individuals were detained at the scene, and the truck was confiscated.
The BGB stated that the cigarettes were smuggled from a border area, transported across Kaptai Lake, and moved along the Kaptai-Chattogram Road. The detainees and the seized items have been handed over to Rangunia Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Lt. Col. Mehedi emphasized that BGB is intensifying its intelligence operations, regular patrols, and anti-smuggling efforts in conjunction with its border security duties and that these initiatives will persist.
