Former Bangladeshi Diplomat Elected to UN Advisory Committee

Geneva:Former Bangladeshi diplomat Mohammad Sufiur Rahman has been elected to the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council as a representative for the Asia-Pacific States.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Sufiur Rahman previously served as Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN Offices in Geneva and as Ambassador to Switzerland. His extensive diplomatic career also includes roles as Bangladesh's High Commissioner to Australia, Sri Lanka, and Ambassador to Myanmar.

Sufiur Rahman, a seasoned foreign service officer from the 9th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs cadre), has held various significant positions at the Foreign Ministry headquarters and in Bangladesh missions in New Delhi, Geneva, and Islamabad. He also worked as a director at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu and represented Bangladesh in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.

After retiring from diplomatic service, he joined the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance at North South University as a senior research fellow. Sufiur holds degrees in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka.
