Youth stabbed dead ‘by friend’ in Rangamati, another wounded

A 28-year-old youth was stabbed dead in an attack allegedly by one of his friends in Sadar upazila of Rangamati early this morning, police said.

Ezazul Huq Rabbi was son of Mozammel Huq, a businessman of BM Market in Banrupa area of the upazila.

Aamir Ali, a security guard of the market, also sustained severe injuries in the attack. He is now undergoing treatment at Rangamati General Hospital.

The guard, who was discharging duty during the incident, said Rabbi and one of his friends locked into an altercation in front of the market early in the morning.

After this, Rabbi’s friend went a few yards away and came back later.

This time, the friend stabbed Rabbi with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured, the guard said, adding that the attacker also stabbed him when he tried to save Rabbi.

“My paternal uncle rescued me after hearing my screams and rushed me to the hospital,” the guard said.

The deceased’s father said the last conversation with his son was around 11pm on Friday and in the morning he came to know about the incident.

“His (Rabbi) friends murdered him,” he said.

Abu Noman, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said on information they recovered the body from in front of the market.

The left side of the victim’s chest bore marks of stab injuries, he said, adding that the body was sent to the General Hospital for autopsy.
