Dhaka: A court here today sentenced a young man to death for murdering a woman and looting her jewelry in Rupganj of Narayanganj district. The condemned convict, Rubel Mia, 35, is the son of Liton Mia of Uttar Panchani area under Uttar Matlab Police Station in Chandpur district. The court also fined him Taka 200,000, court sources told BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the verdict was delivered this afternoon by Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Abu Shamim Azad in the presence of the convict. The case details reveal that Rubel Mia murdered Safia Begum in the Jangir area of Rupganj on January 22, 2021, before fleeing with her gold chain and earrings.
Following the incident, the victim's daughter, Ferdousi Begum Maya, filed the murder case with Rupganj Police Station.
