Dhaka: State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj announced today that the government is drafting a new policy aimed at enhancing the quality of primary education and boosting administrative efficiency. The first draft of this policy is expected to be completed by August 17.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, as part of this initiative, workshops involving administrative officials are being organized across the country's eight divisions. The programme officially commenced in the Sylhet division. The announcement was made by the state minister during a session at a training workshop titled "Management of Primary Education Classroom Activities in Bangladesh, Monitoring, Accountability, and Changing Expectations of Local Administration" at the PTI auditorium.

Bobby Hajjaj stated that the government does not aim to replicate the education systems of developed nations but seeks to establish an outcomes-based education system that aligns with Bangladesh's unique circumstances. The new curriculum will focus on ensuring 100 percent foundational learning at the primary level, with a greater emphasis on religious, family, and civic values.

The curriculum development is progressing with assistance from esteemed national experts and international organizations. Although the policy is still being finalized, the government is committed to enhancing teachers' professional skills and overall quality of life.

Regarding the Mid-Day Meal Programme, the state minister mentioned that it is currently in the pilot phase. To address any identified shortcomings, the government has implemented measures such as stronger supervision of supplier organizations, factory inspections, the appointment of food technologists, and the formation of school-based "Mothers' Committees." If successful, the programme is planned to be expanded nationwide by 2027.

With the introduction of the new curriculum in 2028, private primary schools will also fall under the new policy framework. Their curriculum, teacher quality, infrastructure, and academic calendar will be monitored regularly.

The event was attended by Md. Abdur Rahim, Additional Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, and Md. Masud Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner, with Sakhawat Ershad, District Primary Education Officer of Sylhet, presiding over the session.
